Service Description

To introduce students to the foundations of hand building pottery through three essential techniques — pinch, coil, and slab — in a calm, creative, and mindful environment. ------------------ Note: Due to drying time before glazing, Session 4 may be scheduled a week after Session 3, so the course may extend over a total of 5 weeks. ------------------ Session 1 – Introduction & Pinch Pot Technique • Getting to know the tools and clay • Wedging and preparing the clay • Learning the pinch pot method (making a cup or small bowl) • Exploring form and function • Clay work as a practice in presence and relaxation ⸻ Session 2 – Coil Building • Creating taller forms using coils • Attaching and smoothing techniques • Making a vase or candle holder • Learning balance and proportion in handbuilt forms ⸻ Session 3 – Slab Construction • Rolling out even slabs with guides • Cutting shapes and assembling walls • Making trays, boxes, or geometric forms • Adding surface texture and basic decoration ⸻ Session 4 – Finishing & Glazing • Refining and smoothing dried pieces • Basic glazing instruction (safety, application, and color choices) • Hands-on glazing by students • Preparing for final kiln firing and course wrap-up ⸻ Includes: • 4 x 2-hour classes • All clay, tools, and materials • Glaze and two firings in the kiln • Studio space and individual guidance ⸻ Group size: 3-4 participants Location: Aatra Terra Studio ⸻
