Service Description

Course Goal: To let children explore clay through fun, hands-on projects using pinch, coil, and slab techniques — while building creativity, patience, and focus. Note: Since clay needs time to dry before it can be glazed, Session 4 may happen one week after Session 3, making the full course run across 5 weeks. ⸻ Session 1 – Let’s Meet the Clay! (Pinch Pots) • Getting to know clay and tools • Learning how to shape clay with our fingers • Making a small cup, bowl, or creature with the pinch method • Talking about textures and having fun with messy hands! ⸻ Session 2 – Building Tall with Coils • Rolling long clay “snakes” • Learning how to stack and smooth coils to build shapes • Creating a pencil holder, vase, or a fantasy house! ⸻ Session 3 – Cutting and Creating with Slabs • Rolling out flat clay like cookie dough • Cutting shapes and making plates, wall hangings, or boxes • Adding designs, stamps, or names ⸻ Session 4 – Painting with Glaze! • Smoothing edges and preparing pieces • Learning how to paint with glaze (like ceramic paint!) • Glazing all our artwork — colors, patterns, fun! • Getting excited to see the shiny finished pieces after the final kiln firing
